"South Union Seminar"
"Hot Bread, Green Peach Pies, and Roasting Ears: Southern Tradition in the Shaker Kitchen." An in-depth look at the foodways of the South Union Shakers, the customs that determined what they ate and how they prepared it.
The weekend will include dinner and lunch at the 1869 Shaker Tavern Bed & Breakfast and a continental breakfast.

Creative Drawing Spring Workshop

Children's Art Workshop
June 13
Children 1-5 grade will learn about the Shakers' artistic creations during an art workshop led by elementary art educator Melissa Rose Craven. Children will weave a small Shaker-style basket and create a spirit drawing. Guardians must accompany children during workshop.

Civil War Camp Out

Children up to 14 years old and their guardians can spend a night under the stars and participate in drills, cooking and a scavenger hunt of the grounds with living historians in a safe environment. Guardians must accompany child at all times.
Meals and tents will be provided. Participants must bring sleeping bags, snacks and clothing for outdoor wear, including proper tennis shoes or boots.

Shaker Farm Day

Step into South Union during the 1870 harvest season. Talk to some of Kentucky’s most talented artisans as they demonstrate Shaker farm chores and craft making. See wool spun into yarn and woven into cloth. Pitch in with farm chores as you shell corn or make butter. Smell the smoke as meat is preserved and feel the warmth of bees wax as you dip candles. Hear the history of the Shakers, the songs of live musicians, and skillfully woven tales from a seasoned storyteller. Smile as you watch children playing games of old and enjoying wagon rides.
